Young Film-Makers Workshop

  • The workshop was the idea of Sally Robertson and led by two young local professionals. It was set up with the aim of teaching the youngsters of the village the techniques and methods for making a professional documentary film of the village. The project was made possible with local funding which specified that the film must be made and produced by the children at every stage from the initial planning and ideas through to physically copying the DVD's. With the help of Benedict & Siobhan's workshops the children learned all aspects of film-making and produced this excellent result. Due to the time restrictions and the complex procedures Benedict and Siobhan done the first edit in their office and returned to the children for the final edit.

  • During the two weeks the group was split into two and given the task of making a short horror film. They were allocated only 1 hour to come up with a plot, work out the screen play and with only the editing facilities on the camera film it. Both groups did amazingly well using the camera techniques they had been taught even adding some humour. Mary Reynolds was on hand to make sure there was something to laugh at in the out-takes!

  • To purchase a copy of the DVD which includes the main film, the interviews, the short horror stories, the video diaries and the out-takes please contact Sally Robertson.

Next Project!

  • The workshop was a great success and a new film is planned for 2010. This film will involve acting, period costumes, on location filming and story boarding. The initial idea is to produce a set of short films that tell local stories, both with acting out the story and personal interviews with residents telling their anecdotes. The story of the Woodhouse family from Burghill Court is a classic example and would feature original music from Violet Gordon Woodhouse, who was a world class harpsichord player.

  • A meeting has been planned for 16th May 2010 and any young people who would like to get involved are welcome. We do not have funding for the new project as yet and would welcome sponsors!
